Revealing the reasons for Goddess Durga’s re-incarnation, sage Pulastya says- “Goddess Durga is also known as Kaushiki as she had manifested from the cell (Koshika) of Uma’s (Parvati’s) body. After the manifestation, she went to Vindhya Mountain with the objective of killing the demons- Shumbh and Nishumbh. She was accompanied by numerous Bhoot ganas (spirits).

Kaushiki is a Hindu Goddess. She is an affiliation of Shakti. Her beauty had attracted many asuras who met her as messengers in her glittering beautiful palace. She was a great woman warrior, raised on her fierce lion or tiger. This form of her fierce fire was the essence of her beauty. There are many temples for her worship. She also has 8 hands and sword, chakra, lotus, etc. in them

Once Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati decended on earth. But due to Lord Shiva's miracle, Parvati's complexion turned dark. This made her angry for that and upset because of Shiva. She harshly meditated on the Kailash Mountains. She shed her skin and out appeared of her third eye a black-complexioned Goddess, Kaushiki. All this was linked to the death of the two demon brothers Shumbh and Nishumbh. These two demons had driven away the Gods away from heaven. Kaushiki used to live in an amazing palace singing praises of Shiva. Shumbh and Nishumbh came to know about the Goddess's beauty and decide to take her as their wife. They sent Sugriv first to Kaushiki in order to take her to the heavens, to the brothers. Sugriv came to Kaushiki's palace, Sugriv asked her politely, in a kind, respectful and sweet voice to come to Shumbh and Nishumbh at the heavens. Kaushiki told him that she will marry the one who defeats her in a war. Sugriv understands, he tries to make her understand and convinces her but he fails. Sugriv conveys this to Shumbh and Nishumbh back at heaven, they were very angry and sent Dhumralochan and his army to get Kaushiki at heaven with force. Later, after Sugriv had gone, Parvati came to see how Kaushiki was doing, but not for long. The demon soldiers of Dhumralochan were singing his praises. Parvati and Kaushiki heard this, they created soldiers to guard the palace. Parvati took the form of Goddess Jagadamba with ten hands holding weapons, decked with ornaments, wearing a crown, wearing a red saree, having a fair complexion and astrided on a lion. Kaushiki took her warrior form having the same features as Jagadamba, except she rides a tiger, wearing a yellow saree and has eight hands holding weapons. They both came to the battlefield and spotted Dhumralochan and his army. Dhuralochan's army attacked Jagadamba and Kaushiki with their weapons. Both Kaushiki and Jagadamba attacked them back with their own. Until it was finally time when Dhumralochan attacked the lion of Jagadamba with his arrow, Kaushiki was very angry and from the flames of her anger of her mouth and her third eye incinerated Dhumralochan and his army. Jagadamba congratulated Kaushiki on killing Dhumralochan and his army. Shumbh and Nishumbh came to know about Dhumralochan's death and Jagadamba this and sent Chand and Mund to kill Jagadamba and to kidnap Kaushiki. Chand is the brother of Mund, who has his head always banging from right to left and left to right. Meanwhile Kaushiki applied medicine on Parvati's lion, still in the form of Jagadamba. The saints and Gods did prayers to Kaushiki to kill the demons and to give back Indra's heaven. The demons of Shumbh and Nishumbh reached earth and tried to kill the Gods and saints. Kaushiki appeared in her warrior form and killed the sent demons of Shumbh and Nishumbh. Chand and Mund came to Kaushiki and Jagadamba with their soldiers. On seeing the uncountable number of soldiers, Kaushiki and Jagadamba third eyes started to emit fire and took the shape of a new Goddess. The newborn Goddess had terrible appearance, which is: She is portrayed wearing a girdle of severed human hands, a garland of human skull heads representing the fifty letters of the Sanskrit alphabet or a garland or flowers, for her clothing, she wears tiger skin like Lord Shiva. She has three eyes that symbolizes past, present and future and sometimes, when she gets too furious, her eyes looked bright red. She has two dead heads for her earrings. She is often shown having four hands holding scimitar, demon head, trident and container, and often trident, sword or iron weapon and thorn like weapon made out of thorns, often she is portrayed having four hands holding scimitar or sword in the left hands and a severed demon head in upper and lower left hands while the remaining two on the right are the hand gestures of boon-conferrings and fear-dispellings. And now she has sharp claws like a lioness. She started to attack the demons by blowing a storm out of her mouth, turning them into ashes (burning them alive), beheading their heads, decapitating them by eating their skin alive, eating them alive, scratching them, choking them, stabbing their chests, drinking their blood, breaking their bones, breaking their necks, twisting their hands and legs and swinging them away. When Chand and Mund's army was gone, she beheaded them and presented them to Kaushiki and Jagadamba. They both gave the Goddess's name as Kali Chamunda now because she killed Chand and Mund. Shumbh and Nishumbh has gotten new news about the killing of Chand and Mund and their army. They were very angry and sent a new demon called Raktabeej, he has accumulated from the Gods. Meanwhile, Goddess Durga appeared to Jagadamba, Kali and Kaushiki. She learnt about Raktabeej and there is a big war of bloodshed, to provide the Goddesses extra power, she created nine Goddesses by the names of Brahmani, Maheshwari, Kumari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Narasinghi, Indrani, Shivadooti (Ambika) and Chamunda. All holding weapons or not holding weapons, riding a swan, bull, peacock, eagle, ram, lion, jackal/lion/tiger/owl/corpse. Durga created one more Goddess, by the name of Chandika. When Raktabeej came with his army, he was terrified seeing the 14 Goddesses, so was his army. Kumari cut off Raktabeej's head, but whatever the drop of Raktabeej's blood falls to the ground, another new Raktabeej arose, the 12 other Goddesses, even Durga and Kaushiki tried but no use. Jagadamba assigned Kali to drink the blood of Raktabeej prohibiting it from falling on the ground. Jagadamba pierced her trident in his chest and Kali widened her tongue to an incredible size and ate the demons and Raktabeej up. All other Goddesses praised her. Jagadamba retransformed herself into Parvati told Kaushiki to go inside Kali's body then Durga's after the death of Shumbh and Nishumbh. Durga told Chandika to go inside Parvati's body and Parvati told the nine Goddesses to go inside Durga's body. So everyone went inside their correct places. Except Kaushiki, back at heaven, Shumbh was having a nightmare in which Dhumralochan, Chand-Mund and Raktabeej kidnapped a beauty. The beauty became Parvati and choked Shumbh's neck so hard. Nishumbh was in control of the throne and got the news of Raktabeej's death. Later, after Shumbh's naptime, Kaushiki and Kali were on their own. Shumbh and Nishumbh came with a final large army. Kali killed the army and Kaushiki killed Shumbh and Nishumbh. The Gods were very happy and Durga, Parvati, Chandika, the nine Goddesses were all happy

The implications of what is called Tantra go far beyond mere "sex". They surpass the classic Kama Sutra, and even the sexual continence. It is true that Tantra it uses sex (in fact, to be more accurate, it uses the sexual energy), but this is just a means to an end. The actual aim of Tantra is the ULTIMATE SPIRITUAL FREEDOM.

This concept may appear somewhat confusing for the time being ... however, for a better understanding, you should know that the Christians call it salvation of the soul. The Zen tradition - Satori,yoga - SAMADHI and Buddhism - Nirvana but it cannot be but one and the same thing. It is written in the Holy Book that we all have a spark of God inside us. Tantra believes that your spirit is of the same essence with God, pure happiness, infinite knowledge and immortality. It sustains that SPIRIT is above pain, illness and suffering, immune to all the limits of the human personality.

তন্ত্র কি?

তন্ত্র কথাটির নানা বিধ অর্থ আমরা নিরূপণ করে থাকি- কিন্তু তার মধ্যে সাধারন ভাবে যেটা সর্বজন গ্রাহ্য সেটা হল 'যা তনু অর্থাৎ শরীর কে ত্রান বা রক্ষা করে'।

তাহলে সোজা ভাবে যা শরীর রক্ষা করার পদ্ধতি বিশেষ হল তন্ত্র। তাহলে কি চিকিৎসা শাস্ত্র কে আমরা তন্ত্র বলতে পারি? বা ব্যায়াম -যোগ- প্রাণায়াম ইত্যাদি কে? কেন নয়? অবশ্যই পারি।
প্রাচীন কালে মানুষের কাছে যখন এই পৃথিবীর অনেক কিছুই রহস্যময় মনে হত। বিজ্ঞানের আলো যখন সেই অন্ধকার কোন গুলিকে আলোকিত করতে পারে নি, তখন সেই রহস্যময় পৃথিবীর দুর্বার রূপকে ভয় পেয়ে মানুষ সৃষ্টি করেছে ধর্মের। তার সীমিত ক্ষমতা দিয়ে সে ব্যাখা করতে চেয়েছে এই অসীম মহাবিশ্বের। একাগ্র চিত্তে তার বুদ্ধি বৃত্তিকে কাজে লাগিয়ে অসীম কে ব্যাখা করতে করতে আজ সে এই আধুনিক যুগে উপনীত হয়েছে। কিন্তু যখন সেই আদিমে ছিল তখন সে বুঝে ছিল তার শরীরের প্রয়োজনীয়তা কি! শরীর রক্ষা করার তাগিদে সে গাছ তলা ছেড়ে গুহায় গিয়ে ঢুকেছে, বল্কল থেকে পশু চামড়া থেকে পশমে পৌঁছে গিয়েছে। তাই সেই শরীর কে রক্ষা করার পদ্ধতি গুলি সে ক্রমশ লক্ষ্য করেছে, কি ভাবে শরীর সুখ পায় সেই দিক গুলি অনুশীলন করার চেষ্টা করেছে। শরীরের স্বাভাবিক গতি লঙ্ঘিত হলে কি করনীয় সেই বিষয় গুলি সম্বন্ধে চিন্তা ভাবনা শুরু করেছে। এটাই তন্ত্র আর এটাই আমাদের চিকিৎসা বিজ্ঞানের জন্ম কাহিনী।

তখন বিজ্ঞান অনুন্নত থাকার ফলে মানুষ কারন গুলির ব্যাখা করতে না পেরে সাহায্য চেয়েছে তার সামনে থাকা অসীম মহা জাগতিক শক্তির কাছে। এই সাহায্যের আশায় বসে থাকতে থাকতে বুঝতে পেরেছে কি ভাবে অনেক ক্ষন বসে থাকা যায়, বুঝতে পেরেছে সেই মহা জাগতিক শক্তি কি ভাবে মানুষের শরীরের মধ্যেও ব্যাপ্ত হয়ে আছে, বুঝতে পেরেছে মানব শরীরের ভেতরের মন কে এবং মনেরেও ভেতরে থাকা আরো একটি মন কে। আর সেই সবই ব্যখাত হয়েছে তন্ত্রের মাধ্যমে। যুগ যুগ ধরে চলে আসা মানব জাতির এই মহান অনুসন্ধান কি একেবারেই মিথ্যা হতে পারে?

বিজ্ঞান আমাকে অবিশ্বাস নয় ব্যাখা দিয়েছে। প্রাচীন ঋষি রা যাকে বলেছেন 'তেজ' আধুনিক বিজ্ঞানিরা তাকে বললেন 'ফোটন' এবং ভব্যিষতের বিজ্ঞানিরা তাকে হয়তো আরো ব্যাখা করতে পারবেন। আমি আমার সাধারন বোধ বুদ্ধি দিয়ে যা বুঝবো তা লিখে যাবো। তন্ত্র কি? এর ব্যাখা খুঁজতেই এই ব্লগের সূচনা।
